What is Bladder Cancer and Testing For A Bladder Cancer Diagnosis?
A Bladder cancer tumor forms when cells inside the bladder have started growing abnormally. Common bladder cancer diagnosis tests include:
Urinalysis and Urine Cytology – Your doctor will check your urine for blood or abnormal cells in the urine.
Bladder Cancer Cystoscopy – For this test for bladder cancer, doctors insert a thin tube with a tiny camera at the end into the bladder through the urethra to examine the bladder. In addition to the camera, the cystoscope can have surgical instruments attached allowing the surgeon to remove any abnormal tissue or tumors found during the procedure.
TURBT Procedure – A bladder cancer biopsy when the doctor remove small pieces of tissue from the bladder to determine exactly what type of bladder cancer you have.
Bladder Cancer Imaging Tests – Doctors take pictures using CT scans, MRI, or ultrasounds to see how big the tumor is and if it has spread.
Bladder Cancer Prognosis
A Bladder cancer prognosis depends on the bladder cancer stage, grade, and the patient’s overall health. Advanced stages of bladder cancer and any delay in treatment reduce a bladder cancer recovery rate. Please work closely with your doctor to begin treatment as soon as possible.
Bladder Cancer Staging
Bladder cancer stages are classified based on the tumor’s size(T), the involvement of lymph nodes(N), and metastasis(M), Based on TNM, bladder cancer stages is assigned such as stage 0 bladder cancer, stage 1 bladder cancer, stage 2 bladder cancer, stage 3 bladder cancer, stage 4 bladder cancer.
Bladder Cancer Treatments

TURBT Procedure: TURBT is a procedure used to remove early-stage bladder cancers. TURBT Medical Abbreviation stands for Transurethal Resection of Bladder Tumor.
Radical cystectomy: Surgery is done to remove the bladder and surrounding tissues and organs.
Chemo for bladder cancer: Uses drugs to destroy cancer cells directly into the bladder (intravesical) or through a vein (intravenous).
BCG treatment for bladder cancer: Recommended to treat non-muscle invasive bladder cancer. This uses weakened bacteria to destroy cancer cells.
Immunotherapy for bladder cancer: immunotherapy is a drug that stimulates the body’s own immune system to help the body fight the presence of bladder cancer.
TURBT Procedure vs Radical Cystectomy
